Craig’s Story: Losing an Eye, Reclaiming His Life

Meet Craig - In the Blink’s newest eye recipient. Follow along for his journey.


Here is a part of his eye loss story in his words…


October 12th changed everything.


What started as eye pain turned into 16+ hours of 9/10 agony… multiple ER visits, misdiagnoses, and eye pressure so high it became unbearable.


Nothing touched it.


Days later, a mass was found.


I was told it was likely cancer.


Within weeks, after more procedures and more pain, I made a decision I never thought I’d face:


I removed my eye.


From October 12th to November 18th… everything changed.


The biopsy later showed it wasn’t cancer, but something rare—nodular retinal gliosis. A reminder that even decades-old trauma can come back in ways you never expect.


But here’s the part that matters—


I’m back.


Back to full duty as a firefighter.


Back to competition.


Back to living fully.


And I didn’t do it alone.


Because losing an eye isn’t just physical. It’s identity. Confidence. How you show up in the world.
