We offer financial, emotional, and community-based support to individuals who have experienced vision loss and need a prosthetic eye. In July of 2025, a 29-year-old young father, student, and caregiver became the victim of a racially motivated shooting while parked in his car filling it up with gas. He was shot in the face at close range, surviving catastrophic injuries that included the loss of his eye, bullet fragments lodged in his head, and a stroke caused by the trauma.


Before that moment, he was healthy, independent, and building a meaningful future. He had recently been accepted into an anesthesiologist assistant program, was actively working, and was the primary caregiver for one of his twin daughters, who was born with a congenital heart defect. He was deeply involved in her medical care and daily needs.


In a blink, everything changed.


As a result of the shooting and subsequent stroke, his life has been dramatically altered. He is currently unable to drive, continues to undergo neurological and trauma-related recovery, and faces long-term physical and emotional challenges. And yet—he remains resilient, grateful, and committed to rebuilding his life step by step.


One of the greatest barriers he faces is something many insurance companies still classify as “cosmetic”: a prosthetic eye. Despite being essential to healing, confidence, and reintegration into daily life, it is not covered by insurance. The cost has become an overwhelming financial burden for his family.
