When Tiffany first reached out to EYEMKR, she shared that she hadn’t worn her prosthetic eye for months. The eye she had was uncomfortable, didn’t fit well, and didn’t align the way she hoped, so she simply chose not to wear it.
Our first step was trying to get her insurance to cover a new prosthetic eye. Countless phone calls, emails, and attempts to reach her insurance company… no response. It was heartbreaking having to tell Tiffany that we weren’t able to move forward through her insurance.
That’s when we encouraged her to apply to In the Blink. @intheblinklimited
After reading Tiffany’s story, Megan and the team at In the Blink knew they wanted to help. Through our partnership, we were able to give Tiffany another chance at wearing a prosthetic eye she could be proud of.
When Tiffany arrived, she wasn’t wearing a prosthetic eye at all.
Tiffany survived two vehicle accidents within hours of each other. She suffered devastating injuries to her skull and later lost her eye following complications from treatment. The trauma also affected her eyelids, which no longer fully close, creating one of the biggest challenges of this case. We took a new impression and designed a completely new prosthetic eye from the ground up. We intentionally made the iris slightly larger to create the illusion of a more natural lower eyelid position, carefully positioned the pupil to match her natural eye, and spent hours layering greens, grays, amber, and subtle reddish-brown tones to recreate the beautiful complexity of her iris.
Did we achieve perfection?
No.
As ocularists, we’re always our own toughest critics. We can always find something we’d like to refine, and that’s what pushes us to become better with every prosthetic eye we create.
But we achieved something even more important.
Tiffany told us this new eye is significantly more comfortable than her previous one. The fit, alignment, and overall appearance were all improved, and for the first time in months, she has a prosthetic eye she actually wants to wear.
To Megan and everyone at In the Blink, thank you for believing in Tiffany and for trusting us to be part of her journey. Your generosity changes lives.
And Tiffany, thank you for showing up to every appointment with your positive attitude, resilience, and love for life. Despite everything you’ve been through, your joy is contagious, and your story has left a lasting impact on all of us at EYEMKR.
This is why we do what we do.
Helping someone feel comfortable, confident, and like themselves again is the greatest reward we could ever ask for. 👁️🫶
